Advocates for Independence was formed by Kevin Whatcott in 2014. Kevin is an attorney who practiced law for many years. He went on to form Homewatch CareGivers of Utah, licensed personal care agency serving mostly disabled people needing assistance to maintain their independence. He became aware of the New Choices Waiver program, but recognized that it was being used primarily to move people out of skilled nursing and into assisted living facilities. He met with people who didn’t want to live in a facility and were told that they couldn’t live where they chose; New Choices Waiver case management companies were saying “No” to some people who didn’t want to live in an assisted living facility.
Kevin realized that the only way to help these people was to form his own agency. From the beginning Kevin and his team at Advocates for Independence helped people other agencies said no to. His team helps people find joy in living independently where they want to live. They see people with a dream and help them achieve it.

Individuals thrive when living in their own home, eating what they like to eat and doing activities that they want to do. We understand this. That’s why Advocates for Independence assists our clients in finding the best location for their health and safety with the least restrictions, creating an environment which offers each individual independent living and joy.
